From Great Pain Comes Amazing and Wonderful Music.

Politicians may be able to ban books with the idea that they are preventing the population from feeling bad about our collective history.

Recently there have been attempts to eradicate the past, especially Slavery, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and of course, Jim Crowe.

It is the latter with which Old Friends Radio is concerned. That is because the era of Jim Crowe has not ended. It continues.

Old Friends Radio plays Bebop, Blues, Big Band, Jazz, and Swing from 1918 through 1968.

Inherent in some of this early music may be difficult issues such as; racism, sexism, threats of violence, or suggestive matters. We present this material because of its sound and the fact that this is truly the origination of modern music.

What you hear on Old Friends Radio is a sort of ‘Musical Anthropology.’

It is important to know where we have been historically and musically, so as not to repeat the mistakes of our collective past.

There is a great deal to be learned from this music.

You will hear familiar sounds on this station. That is due to the fact that all rock and roll and current music is based, in some part, on these compositions.
